Work Experience
Jane’s professional career began with getting her hands dirty, as Residential Crew Lead for Perennials Unlimited. Her work as Botanical Education Coordinator, and Manager of Continuing Education at the Calgary Zoo brought her experience in a wide variety of programming as an instructor and program coordinator. This is also where she gained experience in staffing, and budget management. At Olds College, she managed the Botanic Gardens and Greenhouses, focusing on facility management, public gardens, and the connections with college programming and the larger community.

Throughout her career, Jane has been committed to education through writing, public speaking, and instruction. Audiences ranged from garden clubs to continuing education learners and college level students. Topics include plant identification, landscape design, turf maintenance, general gardening topics and garden travel.

Besides course content, you’ll find Jane’s past writing published in the Calgary Horticultural Society’s newsletter, The Calgary Herald, and The Prairie Gardener annual publication.

She has also been intimately involved with the creation and development of programs such as Grounds for Change (schoolyard naturalization), Horticultural Therapy training, Community Garden Resource Network, Botanical Illustration, and Master Gardener Training Program.

Jane has written extensively for publications such as the Calgary Herald, The Alberta Gardener Magazine, and was Guest Editor for the 2013 edition of The Prairie Garden focussing on Perennials.
